El Salvador is situated in Central America. It is the smallest and the most densely populated country in Central America (21,000 km² – 6.5 million inhabitants). El Salvador borders the Pacific Ocean between Guatemala and Honduras and lies on the Gulf of Fonseca, as do Honduras and Nicaragua further south. The Capital city is San Salvador.
